Tassie – Day 3
Ahh – what an amazing nights sleep. Did I mention that Penghana comes highly recommended?
We had a great breafast and headed back out onto the road for a nice relaxed day trip.
Before we left town we took a look at Queenstowns ‘Gallery’ Museum (it used to be the Gallery pub or something)
The museum has the most insane collection of photographs covering the history of the local town and primarily the history of the mines. The collection is truely staggery, however we where really dissappointed with the presentation. Mainly there was just *too* much to take in. There was just room, after room, after room with wall to wall rows of photo’s. Each captioned and a short story to go with them, but after the seconf or third room, you brain just goes into meltdown. There were some rooms upstairs dedicated to specific things about the town. The hospital, the loacl brass band etc – however parts of it just looked like a trash and treasure, or someones spare room.
We grabbed an awful coffee from the local cafe, and made tracks to Zeehan.
Did I mention how good the roads are in Tassie??
Now at Zeehan was what a Museum is meant to look like. I big grand old building, with well layed out, and to the point displays of photo’s, old newspapers, old trans are cars and stuff. That was nice. Although the stuffed Tassie Devil and Tassie Tiger were a little off putting.
We wondered around the yard for a while, but with our feet getting sore and our tummy’s rumbling – we jumped back on the bike and headed south for Strahan.
Again… the roads… oh nevermind – you get the picture.
You know how you see stuff on post cards, but it never quick looks the same in real life? Well Strahan does. It is seriously the most picture-perfect town we’ve seen. We had an amazing Seafood platter, right on the wharf, and then went for a wonder around the town. Jess found some ducks that where so, so cute. So they got a bit of a feed. We would have loved to do one of the cruisers that leave from Strahan, but time just did not permit.
We made out way back to Queenstown where we crashed out for a while. We had booked dinner at Penghana that night – and what a dinner it was. Maureen cooked us up the most amazing grilled fish, and being our first wedding anniversary – Bob opened a bottle of champagne for us!
