Tassie – Day 9
The job for this day was to get from Launceston to Devonport, and take as long as possible to do it. It’s about 100k’s and we didnt need to be anywhere near the ferry until 6pm at the earliest.
It kinda didnt work.
We planned on stopping at the Rasberry Farm, the Chocolate Factory and the Platypus place at Latrobe.
The Rasberry farm, turned out to be nothing more than a cafe – and we had only just had a coffee. The Chocolate factory was ‘ok’, but their ‘wonderful’ hot chocolate was terrible, and the ‘factory tour’ was looking through one window, watching people box up chocolates – whoo…
Oh and the Platypus place in Labtrobe (The worlds Platypus Capital) doesnt actually have any Platypus’s…
So needless to say, we got to Devonport with most of the day to spare, and nothing to do.
We killed time by grabbing lunch at a pub, wasting some time at an internet cafe, and getting the bike washed. But even then we rocked up at the ferry terminal with hours to spare. And Jess asked where the ‘passenger lounge’ was (there were signs) the security guard just laughed and pointed to a row a chairs. Joy. So we killed some time sitting out by the bike, reading and chatting to a few other people that has also gotten there stupidly early.
We finally boarded the boat, had dinner and a few drinks, and did our best to get a decent nights sleep in preparation for the next days hard slog from Melbourne to Canberra.
