So I bowed to public pressure and ditched my homemade seat 🙁
Especially when my mate Simon made me an offer of a nice seat, with Honda printed on the back, and a good price.
The seat is for a CB500/Four but with a couple of mods we knew we could make it work as it fitted the 250’s fat arse. Most of the work needed is to the front around the tank.
So thus far I have trimmed the metal base plate and moved a little foam. What this has done is bring the top of the front inline with the curve of the tank. The second thing it has done is drop the seats bottom edge to really line up with the bottom of the tank.
The other thing Ive done is roughly removed some foam from the top edges of the front of the seat. The set normally is very wide at the front, so what this has started to do is to narrow it closer to the width of the tank rear.
From here, I will get some thin steel and rebuild the front of the pan to properly to shape around the tank. Next it will be off to the upholsterer to finish up the foam trimming and adjust the vinyl to match the new shape. I’m also toying with the idea of having a tail light integrated into the rear of it.
This is how it stands now. You can see where I’ve trimmed the foam as the vinyl is floppy.
