Android, take 3 (or whatever I'm up to…)
I recently got hold of that Asus Transformer again, and installed Ice Cream Sandwich on it (Android 4). To be honest, I wasn’t completely blown away by it. Probably because the Asus already had Honeycomb (Android 3) on it and the twos interface is very similar.
However Honeycomb/Ice Cream Sandwich is significantly better and improved that the old Android 2.3 found on 99% on phones, and I really wanted to see how HC/ICS would run on a phone.
Cyanogenmod has recently released an alpha version of ICS for the original Samsung Galaxy S, of which I managed to get my hands on one. So today (with my home internet finally setup) I set about installing this custom ROM on the Galaxy. Install was s snap once Clockwork Recovery was installed and everything went as planned, including the ICS Google Apps package.
So Ive been playing with it today and thus far I’m very happy, although the battery life is pretty ordinary (I’ve just installed Easy Battery Saver and Easy Task Killer to help), but even under Adroid 2.3 the battery life was never great. So far every thing seems to be running fine. No huge issues. It can get a little laggy on the very rare occasion and only had one app crash thus far.
I intend to give it a good week of testing and will report here how I go.
